Community Assisting Military Personnel and Veterans (CampV)

Mental Health Care

Self-care is important, especially your mental health. That is why CampV and the Andrews Center have established a partnership to help bring mental health services to the Veteran community, which includes active military, Veterans, Veteran family members and significant others (anyone who is affected by the Veteran's military service). Reservists and National Guard are included. Services are rendered regardless of your financial situation. Once you are screened and registered through the Andrews Center process, our campus counselor will call to schedule an appointment. Currently, due to the current COVID 19 pandemic, sessions are via video or telephone only; this will change when vaccinations become available and/or numbers of cases are reduced. You can then have the option to meet with the counselor face-to-face on our campus in the newly renovated CampV resource center. Individual, couples and family counseling are available. Not sure where to start? Who to talk to? Not sure if counseling is the right thing for you? That is ok, we are here to help. Stop in and talk to one of our Veteran advocates today about the process. Here at CampV we understand that asking for help isn't easy and often comes too late. We are a Veteran focused organization that is staffed primarily by Veterans and military family members. Even if formal counselling isn't for you, you can still stop by and have a cup of coffee and network with other Veterans and their families with a fellow Veteran that understands what you are going through.

Shelter and Housing

We all need a place to call home. For some of us it was a fighting hole, patrol base, forward operating base, or some other temporary place we called home. But there is no substitute for a roof over our head that we call our own. Whatever the situation, no matter how we got there, sometimes we need help finding a new place. That is where CampV can help. If you are looking at using your VA home loan benefits, there are certain things that you will need to do and may have questions. Our Veteran advocates can help you with that. They can even assist with other state benefits that you may not know you are eligible for. If you are on a fixed income and looking for a new place or need to downsize there are options for income-based housing available to you. We encourage you to sit down and talk with one of our advocates about the home loan process. If you are a disabled Veteran and need to make a change to or buy a home to meet your specific needs, there are programs that can help. If you have a certain service-connected disability and own or will own the home, you may be able to get a grant. You may qualify for a Specially Adapted Housing grant or the Special Home Adaptation grant to make your home more accessible. Sit down with an advocate to learn more and explore the application process. Homelessness is a problem that the VA understands and has addressed. There are programs that are available to you if you are homeless or risk becoming homeless. The best way to address this issue is to come in and talk with an advocate about what is available or call (877) 424-3838. This is the number to the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans. There are options out there that may help you with your specific situation. These are only some of the options that may be available to you, there are others that are not through the VA and may be of use to you. Come out and see us to find out more.

Transportation

Getting around is essential today. Without reliable transportation easy tasks become difficult quick, and sometimes walking is not an option. In rural areas and cities without robust public transit systems the need for reliable transportation becomes an issue that many face. It is often the first barrier that the Veteran community faces when they leave the military. Public transportation is often the only option that a Veteran has, whether it's a bus system or shuttle system. There are resources that are available to Veterans that start with the bus. The City of Tyler has partnered with CampV to help Veterans and their families qualify for free or reduced fare rides, sometimes even providing a pass for a weeks' time. With a bus stop directly in front of the Resource Center, public transportation is convenient. The GoBus serves the rural community in ways that the city bus cannot. Operating from 6:30 am to 5:30 pm it offers plenty of time to get whatever it is that you need done. Serving 14 counties in North East Texas they have you covered if you need to get around. A program through GoBus called GoVet can help you get to Overton Brooks VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA. You must register beforehand by calling 800-590-3371 and need to schedule your trip in advance. Serving the counties of Camp, Gregg, Harrison, Rusk, and Upshur they can help you keep any appointments that you have. Are you a disabled Veteran that has trouble getting around? The City of Tyler has received grants that can be used to help you get around, a cab ride to your destination or other shuttle/public transit option. If you are a disabled Veteran and think that you may qualify, we encourage you to sit down with an advocate and talk about your options. If you don't know if there is anything that would fit your needs or that you would qualify for we highly encourage you to call and talk to an advocate today. Don't let a lack of transportation stand in your way of using the benefits that you earned.

Veteran Services

Veterans, Active Duty, and Military Families love to live among the lakes and piney woods of East Texas. However, along with this serenity comes frustration when resources, information, and outlets for wellness are needed but cannot be found. Where do we go? Who has this service? Only to be told “We don’t do that; you have to go someplace else.” Just connecting to other Military families challenges their time, patience, and pocketbooks. Many give up! CampV (Community Assisting Military Personnel and Veterans) has answered the call! Our unique 20-acre campus provides convenient access to local Veteran Service Providers at one location in Tyler, Tx. Veteran Volunteer Advocates meet personally with clients to assess needs and situations. Then working through a network of resources, Veteran families receive assistance to advance their current circumstances. Key to empowering Post Traumatic Growth are our community supporters. While CampV is the catalyst inspiring a movement to serve those who have served us, community collaborations help unlock opportunities and integration.
